In a welcome change of pace for Star Wars news, Disney announced today that Taiki Waititi, director of recent hits Thor Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit would be helming a new Star Wars movie. Waititi will be wrapping up production on Thor: Love and Thunder later this year / early 2021 so that likely projects 2023 as the earliest his film could be completed and out in theaters. No word yet if this film will kick-start the rumored new trilogy or not. However his hire is a strong sign of the direction that Star Wars could go. He directed the final episode of “The Mandalorian” and was a featured voice as the assassin droid IG-11. He did a fantastic job resurrecting Thor from the lukewarm Thor entries and made us fall in love with him again.

Leslye Headland’s Star Wars Disney Plus series

Leslye Headland did a superb job creating “Russian Doll” with actress Natasha Lyonne and Amy Poehler. Having her take the helm of a Star Wars Disney Plus series is incredibly smart and adds more weight to recent decisions that Disney has been putting together. Again, we didn’t get a ton of details on what the show will focus on, but hopefully it gives us even more post-Skywalker saga stories.

Skywalker Saga in stock and on sale

We knew eventually that a comprehensive set of Star Wars blurays were inevitable, but that impressive box set that came out on April 20th sold out super quick. We have it on good authority that Best Buy is back in stock with a $50 off sale, taking it down to $199 (from $249)
