Convention Preview: Star Trek Las Vegas 2018

This summer has already been jammed packed with news and events from conventions, but the con season isn’t over yet. Next up on the docket for the crew at Nerd Union is Creation Entertainment’s Star Trek Las Vegas, the official Star Trek Convention, and Nerd Union will be there to bring you the latest coverage. We will also have writers on the scene in Gen Con in Indianapolis. We will have a Con Preview up for that soon. What follows are the biggest things to expect from the largest Star Trek Convention in the States.

Star Trek Discovery Cast and Crew

CBS has revitalized Star Trek with season 1 of Star Trek Discovery, and they are looking to continue engaging fans in ways the Abrams produced films haven’t, namely by actually attending STLV en masse. San Diego Comic Con had an amazing Disco panel highlighting what to expect from season two of the series, but STLV is boasting having, “ featuring the largest gathering of Discovery cast and crew,” and they’re not bluffing.

All of the principle cast will be there, minus Michelle Yeoh (Captain Georgiou), and all the supporting cast from season 1 will be there. Also, newcomer Anson Mount (Captain Christopher Pike) will also be joining.

Deep Space Nine’s 25th Anniversary

This year also marks the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. STLV will be celebrating with panels (of course), and hopefully there will be at some previews of the DS9 documentary, “What We Left Behind” produced and co-directed by DS9’s former showrunner Ira Steven Behr. The two directors, Behr and Frank Zappone, will be discussing the documentary on Friday, Aug 3. The Big DS9 Panel will be in Sun, Aug 5th, where almost the entire main cast (and some of your favorite supporting cast) will join in a retrospective panel specifically discussing one of the best episodes of all time, “Far Beyond the Stars.” The panel includes: Ira Steven Behr (Executive Producer), Cirroc Lofton (“Jake Sisko”/“Jimmy”), Aron Eisenberg (“Nog”/”Newspaper Vendor”), Jeffrey Combs (“Weyoun”/“Officer Mulkahey”), Rene Auberjonois (“Odo”/“Douglas Pabst”), Armin Shimerman (“Quark”/“Herbert Rossoff”), Nana Visitor (“Major Kira”/“Kay Eaton”), Marc Alaimo (“Gul Dukat”/“Officer Ryan”), Terry Farrell (“Dax”/“Darlene Kursky”) and J.G. Hertzler (“Martok”/“Roy Ritterhouse”)

Klingon Karaoke

Okay, so I’ve never been to STLV before, and I cannot express how much Klingon Karaoke as been hyped to me. My understanding is that there are two karaoke parties, one on Thursday evening, and the other on Friday evening. The Friday evening one is hosted by two Enterprise alumni, Connor Trinnear (Tripp Tucker) and Dominic Keating (Lt. Reed). The Thursday one, however, is hosted by none other than Martok (J.G. Hertzler) and Gowron (Robert O’Rielly) in full Klingon regalia. It sounds intense and incredible.

Other Star Trek Guests

There, as always, will be a ton of top Star Trek personalities. Aside from those mentioned above the list includes: William Shatner, Jason Isaacs, Kate Mulgrew (the three of which appear to be doing a Captain’s panel), George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, Jeri Ryan, Brent Spiner, Colm Meaney, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, Famke Jansen, CLINT HOWARD, and so much more. You can follow the link here to get the full list and check out autograph opportunities.

Saturday Gala

According to the latest Press Release from Creation, “the Star Trek Saturday Evening Gala Celebration will return with the Nevada Pops Orchestra Star Trek: Concert Live.  This special night features Maestro Richard McGee and a 45-piece orchestra.  Special quest conductors will include Michael Giacchino (“Star Trek Into Darkness, and Beyond Suite”), Jeff Russo (world premiere of a orchestral performance of his score “Star Trek: Discovery”), and Dennis McCarthy (The Deep Space Nine Suite). The concert will take place Saturday, August 4 at 9:30 p.m. (a separate ticket of $50 is required for general admission).”

To check out more events and times, hope over to the STLV site. You can follow our coverage as it happens on our site, but for real time news follow us on facebook, or @nerdunion or @jk_nelson on twitter. Stay tuned for our Gen Con preview.
